Dr. Swati A. Piramal is the Director-Strategic Alliances & Communications of Nicholas Piramal India Limited. Her current responsibilities include :Research & Development, Strategic Alliances, New products and technologies, Knowledge Management, Corporate Communications and Government Policy.
Fields of Specialization : Special research interests include: Herbal, Clinical Discovery and Nutrition Research in Pharmaceuticals, the use of management techniques like Information Technology & Communication to improve access and lower healthcare costs.
Under her leadership, Piramal Enterprises has made significant progress in Discovery Research for discovering and patenting new NCEs, Chemical Process Development for discovering new Drug Delivery Systems, Clinical Research for planning clinical trials, pathology labs, new drug protocols and pharmacokinetics labs, the setting up of a Business R & D programme in the Company and Contract Research and Technology partnerships with some of the leading companies in the world.
Dr. Piramal was part of the management team at Piramal Enterprises that acquired the Hoechst Marion Roussel Research Centre in Bombay and set up the new Nicholas Piramal Research Center and the Wellspring Clinical Facility in Mumbai.
Awards: Has been conferred the Chevalier de l'Ordre National du M?rite (Knight of the Order of Merit) by the French Government 2006 , one of the highest civilian honours given by the French government, the award was for her contribution towards the development of Indo-French relations in medicine and trade.
Dr. Swati Piramal, executive director, Nicholas Piramal India, has been appointed as a member of the newly constituted Maharashtra Biotechnology Commission.Dr. Piramal took the lead to set up the Mahabioyatra ? networking forum for Maharashtra's Bioscience community. Mahabioyatra is a partnership between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Government of Maharashtra to bring together the corporate sector, researchers and scientists in biotechnology to exchange ideas, share opportunities and develop potential business partnerships.
Dr. Piramal was selected by the US Mission to meet with United States President Bill Clinton, to talk about transforming India into a Knowledge Power.She is a Member of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Knowledge Industries Council, Chair of the Life Science & Biotech Committee and Economic Growth Committee. and was President of CII 2006 for the state of Maharastra.
On the Board of Directors of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations. (ICRIER). Dr. Piramal is also a member of the WHO IPR Committee - Commission on Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation and Public Health. (CIPIH.)
The Prime Minister of India has nominated Dr. Swati Piramal on the Board of the Council of Scientifc & Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi.Shel has been awarded the BMA Management Woman Achiever of the Year Award (2004-05).Nominated as one of the 25 most powerful women in India thrice in succession from 2002-2005. She is the only woman on the Prime Minister?s Scientific Advisory Council. (SAC-PM) Expert Member of the Planning Commission, Government of India.
