Dr R Parimala

Education: Ph. D. (1976) Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai University. M. Sc. (1970) Stella Maris College, Madras University .B. Sc. (1968) Stella Maris College, Madras University. Joined TIFR as a research scholar and obtained her PhD and taught Mathematics there since then. Now in the Faculty of Mathematics & Computer Science, Emory University, Atlanta, GA 30322.

Fields of Specialization:Quadratic forms, Galois cohomology and algebraic groups.

AwardedTWAS award in 2005 for her outstanding work in Mathematics. Parimala is the first woman scientist to receive the prize in the field of mathematics or Physics award and was on "the quadratic analogue of Serre's conjecture, the triviality of principal homogeneous spaces of classical groups over cd-2 fields and the u-invariant of p-adic function fields.The prize carries a cash award of $ 10,000 and a plaque.
Professional Activities:On the Editorial Boards of: Asian Journal of Mathematics Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra Journal of the Ramanujan Mathematical Society.
