Archana Sharma

Birth: February 16, 1932

Achievements: Professor Sharma is a renowned Cytogeneticist and Cell Biologist who made valuable contribution to the study of chromosome She has done significant work on chromosomes of plant and human systems, with special reference to differentiation and mechanisms of evolution. New techniques developed by her for studies on chromosomes have had a significant impact in the field of plant and human genetics.

She published over 300 research papers and authored seven books. Her book entited "Chromosome Techniques: Theory and Practice" (Co-authored with her husband Professor Arun Kumar Sharma) came into the market in several editions.
She won J.C. Bose Award, 1972; Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, 1975; Padma Bhushan, 1984; FICCI Award, 1984; Birbal Sahni Medal, 1984; G.P. Chatterjee Award, 1995; S.G. Sinha Award, 1995; Women Scientist Award etc.
