Graduate Associateship in Physics |
|
Description:
Applications are sought in August-September every year from first
year students or exceptionally good second year students of Physics (B.
Sc. Honours or 5-year integrated M. Sc.) of any Indian University or Institute
like IIT, for selection as Undergraduate Associates of Saha Institute
of Nuclear Physics (SINP).
Undergraduate Associates
(about 10 in number each year) are exposed to short supplementary courses,
laboratory demonstrations and/or mini-projects at SINP lasting about a
week at a time for a total of 45-90 days over the undergraduate period
(2-3 years). Appropriate topics are chosen by the students and their assigned
guides. They receive allowances @ Rs. 150/- per day for the duration of
such activity, with travelling allowances (up to AC 3-Tier train fare)
if based outside Calcutta. In addition there are book grants of Rs. 6000/-
per annum. A certificate is issued on completion of the Undergraduate
Associateship Programme.
After evaluation at the end
of this Programme, a few of the Undergraduate Associates are selected
as Graduate Associates of SINP if they pursue M. Sc. courses in Physics.
During vacations in this period, they are expected to work on projects
lasting about a month each year at SINP. On successful completion of the
M. Sc. courses with First Class or equivalent grades, they may be absorbed
as Research Fellows of SINP with the usual Fellowship. |
