The Indian Society of Human genetics Awards

Detail:  
1 ) Dr. L.D. Sanghvi Oration :

The Society has decided to institute a Dr. L.D. Sanghvi Oration to be given every two years.
Objective The oration is intended as a tribute to the pioneering role of Dr. L.D. Sanghvi in the field of Human Genetics in India and to show the appreciation of the Society for any sustained and significant contribution made to the field of Human Genetics in India. 
Eligibility: Any Indian scientist who has worked in India for at least 15 years and has made a significant contribution to Human Genetics and related fields is eligible to be nominated to give the oration. A person can receive the award only once. The nominee shall be invited to give the oration at a Special Session of one-hour duration at the Annual Conference. The nominee shall be given a suitable citation and silver plaque.  2 ) Young Scientist Awards: 

The Indian society of Human Genetics has instituted three young scientist awards, one each in the fields of
 Medical Genetics (named after Dr. Arvind Baxi),
 Population Genetics (named after Dr. H. M. Bhatia) and 
 Cytogenetics (named after Dr. K. M. Marimethu),
to be presented during the annual conference. Although the awards are given under the three heads, they cover the entire field of human genetics. The candidates competing for the award will be asked to specify the field under which their paper needs to be considered, depending on the aims of the study. Each of the awardees is given a Certificate and a Silver Medal. 
Eligibility: The candidate must not have completed 35 years of age as on the conference date. Age certificate must accompany the paper. One person is eligible to receive only one prize. Those who had received young scientist award at an earlier ISHG Conference will not be entitled to compete again. 

3 ) Poster presentations:

There will be one best poster award and is open to all, irrespective of age. The announcement of the poster award will be made along with the young scientist awards. However, selection process of the best poster award will begin only during the conference and the judges appointed will see all the posters and discuss with the presenters before recommending the best poster to the Secretary and the President. The winner of the best poster award will be presented with certificate and a silver medal during the valedictory function.

Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany Awards
Ministry/Department/Organisation: Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany
Detail: The Medals and prizes are awarded to recognize the contributions of scientists in the field of Palaeobotany at different levels of scientists in the Institute and also at International level. 1 ) Professor T. M. Harris Medal : The selection of the candidates is for the best paper published in the subject of Palaeobotany and any allied discipline in any refereed Journal. Award is given to the best paper published in any Calendar year in the Journal ?The Palaeobotanist?.

2 ) Dr. P.N. Srivastava Medal: The selection of the Scientist is made amongst Scientist 'D' of the Institute for the best piece of research work done in the Institute during the two years preceding the year of award. 

3 ) Shri Chandra Dutt Pant Memorial Medal: The selection of the Scientist is made amongst Scientist 'C' of the Institute for the best piece of research work done in the Institute during the three years preceding the year of award. 

4 ) Dr.Chunnilal Khatiyal Medal: The selection of the Scientist is made amongst Scientist 'A' of the Institute for the best piece of research work done in the Institute during the three years preceding the year of award.

5 ) Dr Pratul Chandra Bhandar Medal: The selection of the scientist is made from amongst Birbal Sahni Research Scholars for the best piece of research work done during the three years preceding the year of the award.

 National Awards for Women Bioscientists
Ministry/Department/Organisation:  Department of Biotechnology ,Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India 
Detail: The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) invites nominations of women scientists who are currently working in the areas of biology and biotechnology and have made outstanding contributions in research, technology and product development. The programme is being implemented through BCIL. The details of the scheme are as under :

(a) National Award for Senior Woman Bioscientist 
There will be one award ( Rs. 1.00 lakh along with citation and a gold medal ) for a senior woman biologist for life time contributions. The nominee should have carried out excellent research and applied the results for the benefit of society. 

(b) National Awards for Young Women Bioscientists

There will be two awards (Rs. 50,000 each with citation and gold medal) for young women scientists below the age of 45 years  for pursuing a brilliant research career in biology. Contributions made in the last five years would be the main consideration. 

Eligibility : The Nominee should be a citizen of India and actively involved in research and/or teaching activities in biology and biotechnology in the country. 

Nominations : Women scientists working in the area of biology/ biotechnology can be nominated by members of the SAC-DBT; SAC(O), DBT; Vice-Chancellors of Universities/ Deemed Universities; Chairman, UGC; DGs of CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DRDO; Directors of National Research Laboratories etc; Presidents of approved scientific societies and academies of All India Nature; Secretaries of S&T Departments / Ministries such as DST, DBT, DSIR, DOD, MNES, MOEF, Atomic Energy, Space, Commerce, Industry and Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development; and Member (Science) Planning Commission. Nominations will have to be sent in the prescribed proforma. Nomination from individuals sponsoring their own names will not be considered.

Mode of selection : The selection of candidates for the award will be made on the basis of recommendations of an expert committee constituted specifically for the purpose by the Department of Biotechnology. Only nominations complete in all respects as per proforma will be considered. The decision of the selection committee will be final. Only the selected candidates will be informed.
